Encore is the new way to search for materials in the Poughkeepsie Public Library District (and every other library within the Mid-Hudson Library System too!). Encore allows users to search millions of book, movie, e-book and audiobook titles available through the Mid-Hudson Library System, as well as downloadable articles from over 7,000 magazine and journals. Another new feature of Encore is the ability to check out e-books and audiobooks within the library catalog, instead of leaving the catalog and going to the Overdrive website. And like with the old catalog, you can continue to manage your holds and renewals online by logging into your account. If you would like training on how to get the most out of this great new resource, visit us for one-on-one help!

Did you know that in addition to the great hands-on workshops the Public Computer Center offers on Microsoft Office applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access, our library system also subscribes to databases that provide instruction on these useful tools as well? All you need is your library card to gain access to these helpful resources.
- Check out Gale’s Testing & Education Reference Center and Workforce Skills for the 21st Century for tutorials on Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook, as well as lessons on more basic computer skills.
- If you need personalized help on a Microsoft Word, Excel or PowerPoint project you are working on, check out the database Job Now’s live help provided by expert tutors. You just connect with a tutor via chat then upload the file you are working on, and the tutor will assist you.
All of these great resources are available to anyone with a library card from a Mid-Hudson Library System library. Click on the link below to access these databases.
One of the many great databases the Poughkeepsie Public Library District provides to its library card holders is the Ancestry.com Library Edition. This database provides access to over 7,000 record collections, including censuses, vital records, immigration records, family histories, military records, court and legal documents, directories, photos, and maps. Individuals with a library card who live in the city or town of Poughkeepsie can access this database via the library website from the comfort of their own home! But if you are not a city or town of Poughkeepsie resident–don’t despair! Just visit one of our branches and speak to one of our friendly librarians, and they can help you use this wonderful resource on one of the library’s public computers.
If you would like to learn more about how to get the most out of this database, the Public Computer Center offers an Introduction to Ancestry.com workshop. Please visit our online calendar at http://www.eventkeeper.com/code/events.cfm?curOrg=POKLIB#3380122 for more information and to register.
